The evils of the world hit close to home
I am very sad. Angry. Afraid. So very many emotions, half the time I'm not even sure exactly what I am feeling. Yesterday was the first day I cried about it. I've scared Rick. He asked if I wanted to move. Bad part is it didn't have anything to do with home, and we just moved here June 1!!!

Moving wouldn't help, anyhow. I don't feel safe anywhere. This is the first time in over 10 years that I don't even feel 100% safe with Rick in the house. When we first moved in together we lived just a block off of Troost, a pretty bad area of Kansas City. Our apartment was broken into once. We knew who did that because they just wanted to scare us. Things were moved, and moved gently as so not to break anything. Nothing was missing.

A week before we moved from that place, a guy broke into my car and passed out in the passenger seat. When the police woke him up he tried to get me to say that he was OK being there. He was severely messed up on drugs or something.

Neither ...

It is set in a fictional town named Jericho, Kansas and is about a town surviving the aftereffects of a nuclear "attack" on the United States. The show was on Wednesday nights at 7PM central on CBS. It apparently did not do too well in this timeslot, so the show was canceled. This upset an enormous group of viewers, which led to what was known as a 'Nuts' campaign against CBS. More than 40 thousand pounds of peanuts were sent to CBS through one supplier alone! Yes, I know that is a bit strange, but there is meaning behind the message.

Some may recall that during WWII's Battle of the Bulge General McAuliffe responded to Germany's offer to surrender by saying "Nuts!" During the season finale, this story is told, and when Jericho is offered to surrender to a neighboring town wanting to take over their farms, the star responds with "Nuts!"

By the end of the day that CBS announced that Jericho ...

WIBW - Nuts to CBS

"I like 'Jericho', too.

I do not like it that CBS cancelled the series. As an individual, those dummies at the television networks are always cancelling shows I like. For example, I liked "Surface" on NBC last year. Gone.

Here is the problem. It is a highly democratic process. If a show has lots of viewers, it gets renewed. Fewer viewers, it says "goodbye." Sadly, there were not enough people such as you and me who watched "Jericho" faithfully.

CBS says it appreciates the enthusiasm. It is looking for ways to provide fans a "resolution" to the situation. We will see how that will work out. There are notable situations in which programs were cancelled, then brought back to life because of fan support. A good example is the original "Star Trek" series.

For those of you participating the "Nuts to CBS" effort (the link is below), good luck!

Jim Ogle
General Manager
The WIBW Channels

Related Links: Nuts to CBS
WIBW - HomePage

FINALLY! I have a full fledge boycott going on CBS right now. This is so much more than about a TV show, although that is the trigger, it is about what that TV show represented to so many of the faithful viewers. The most important thing I have gotten from this show is regardless of how messed up our country may be today, it is still America where we live. The following is becoming my personal mantra:

We are not only fighting for ourselves, but also for the greater good, for the paychecks that keeps the housing for the grips (or insert any crew member here), for the morality of Ameri...

My sister was walking through her neighborhood yesterday with little Abby. They noticed that there were some police cars and an ambulance at one of the homes. Michelle spoke to the developer of the neighborhood because he was close by at the time. He did not know what was going on, either, but said that he hoped this gentleman who lived alone was OK because he seemed very nice. Additionally, animal control took a dog away while they were there.

I went for my visit yesterday afternoon and a helicopter was circling the area. Jericho and Lost. Lost is getting lamer by the second (I know lamer isn't a word ), and now I have no Jericho. Do they realize that this means they have left so many people up in the air about how the 'war' turns out? If any of you want a taste of the show that will no longer be produced, there are still links on the CBS site to watch the show online.

Especially when you get to the dam, an eastern view from Interstate 435. On May 2, two or three cranes were removed from the area. A few years ago, this dam looked as though it was made from a bunch of gravel that had been dumped in the Kansas River to form a road across the River.
My Views on the One Day Blog Silence

A great many things has been written about April 30, 2007. I have chosen to join what is appearing to be a minority who will be participating in a 'blogging silence' on Monday. This was originally thought of as a way to honor those who were massacred at Virginia Tech. When I first read about this, I happened across another blog, that I am unable to locate now, of a person who knew personally knew a family that lost a child that day. That family was very touched to hear that the blogging community was trying to organize such an event. For that family and the other 32 families that were abruptly torn apart that day, I want to show my support by participating in this.

To see the site that started this idea, you can go here.

To see what others are saying about this idea and their opinions, you can go here.
